National March for Farmed Animals - Saturday, 2nd October 2010 ![]() Did you know that in the UK alone, around 1000 million animals are killed for meat, dairy and eggs every year? And, that number does not include the fish that are trawled out of the water in their tonnes. None of this is necessary - we do not need to consume animal products. On 2nd October, we are going to march in London to make it clear that it is not acceptable to farm animals, and hope you can join us. This is the first time that we have held a march for farmed animals in London, and we hope that together we can make it a lively day, in solidarity of the millions of animals killed for meat, dairy and eggs, every day. Launch
Friday 23rd May 2008 saw the launch of the Green Garden Cafe. They are based at The Coventry Foyer, which is a young people?s centre and have full use of the kitchens there in return for carrying out some voluntary youth work with some of the young people that live there.
'Green Garden Cafe' is a not for profit social enterprise that offers dairy free, pure vegetarian, catering for any occasion. Green Garden Cafe work with young people on accredited programmes such as OCN and vinvolved. They also work with local junior and secondary schools focusing upon healthy living, cooking and independent living skills and can incorporate issue based work e.g. Team building, anger management and young womens work. Working on the Allotment
Green Garden Cafe have a large organic community allotment within the city maintained all year round.
This involves both young people and other volunteers providing the necessary labour. The idea behind the allotment is for the young people to participate in the growing of organic fruit and vegetables, some of which will be used in Green Garden Café's catering and the rest will be offered to the young people to distribute as they choose. Why not Volunteer! Not only are you helping create a wildlife environment in the centre of the city, allotment work is a very satisfying way of getting out of the house. It is also a good way to keep fit! Volunteers are welcome, no experience is needed as training will be given Various opportunities available for all ages all year round.
